Our aim is simple: preserve the heritage of the property while introducing the benefits of modern timber, glazing and manufacturing techniques.
PRESERVING CHARACTER
At Landmark Windows, conservation is at the heart of what we do. With decades of experience manufacturing bespoke timber windows and doors, we understand the importance of protecting the character, proportions and architectural details that make period properties unique.
Whether working with a property in a conservation area, a listed building or a traditional home where the original appearance needs to be retained, our approach is centred around sympathetic design, traditional craftsmanship and careful attention to detail.
LIKE-FOR-LIKE REPLACEMENT
Traditional windows are defined by their details. The proportions of the sashes, glazing bar profiles, mouldings, sash horns and frame construction all contribute to the appearance of the building.
Where existing windows are being replaced, we can carefully replicate these features to produce new timber windows that remain sympathetic to the original design.
Where required, we can work from the existing windows, architectural drawings or agreed specifications to reproduce details as accurately as possible.
HERITAGE GLAZING
Improving performance does not have to mean compromising the appearance of a traditional window. Our standard heritage specification can incorporate slimline double glazing, designed to provide improved thermal performance while maintaining slimmer sightlines appropriate for period properties.
Depending on the requirements of the property, we can also offer alternative glazing solutions including vacuum glazing, acoustic glazing, leaded glass, obscure glass and decorative glazing.
TRADITIONAL DETAILS
Every property is different, which is why our windows are manufactured specifically for each project.
We can reproduce and incorporate traditional features including sash horns, glazing bars, mouldings, traditional sill details and period-style ironmongery.
Our objective is always to ensure that the finished window feels appropriate to the building rather than looking like a modern window fitted into a period property.
CONSERVATION AREAS
Properties within conservation areas can be subject to additional planning considerations, particularly where windows and doors contribute to the architectural character of the area.
Our experience with traditional timber joinery allows us to help homeowners, architects and contractors develop window and door specifications that are sympathetic to the existing property and its surroundings.
Where planning approval is required, the final requirements remain subject to the relevant local planning authority, but our team can provide the product information, drawings and specifications available for the proposed joinery.
